Moving Email From Shared Webmail to G Suite

OK, this process may or may not be the most direct process, however, it is what we know works. The process looks something like this:

  1. Set your existing email up in an email client (Apple Mail or Outlook) using IMAP settings given to you from your host.
  2. Let the email client download all of your email for you, remembering that you might have email buried in folders as well. This process could take a while, depending on how much mail you have.
  3. This step can happen in conjunction with #4, but you can get your new email set-up and get your MX records changed over to Google, see this article from Google.
  4. Once all email is downloaded, then you want to backup your email. In Apple Mail this is an .mbox file, in Outlook it is an .msi file.
  5. Delete your old email account from your email client and set-up your new email account.
  6. Upload the backed up email to your email client's new account.
  7. Verify that all email is present and you should be all set.
