Moving Email From Shared Webmail to G Suite
OK, this process may or may not be the most direct process, however, it is what we know works. The process looks something like this:
- Set your existing email up in an email client (Apple Mail or Outlook) using IMAP settings given to you from your host.
- Let the email client download all of your email for you, remembering that you might have email buried in folders as well. This process could take a while, depending on how much mail you have.
- This step can happen in conjunction with #4, but you can get your new email set-up and get your MX records changed over to Google, see this article from Google.
- Once all email is downloaded, then you want to backup your email. In Apple Mail this is an .mbox file, in Outlook it is an .msi file.
- Delete your old email account from your email client and set-up your new email account.
- Upload the backed up email to your email client's new account.
- Verify that all email is present and you should be all set.
